That lobster burger - excessive much?
Having an Asian father would loves a gamble, and let’s not kid ourselves - they ALL love to gamble, we frequently choose casino restaurants as a meeting place for dinner. I first saw the Lobster Burger with foie gras butter ($65) on the Sean’s Kitchen menu 4-5 weeks ago, but held back from ordering it. Eventually, curiousity got the better of me and when I saw it again on the dinner menu and I just had to. The first thing I noticed was that it had changed from the $65 price tag to market price. When we asked for the price, the waitress informed us that it was a whooping $90! The price of these Tasmanian lobster has gone up, apprently. Perhaps she should’ve told me they’re becoming an endangered species, for the 25% markup.
So I ordered it anyway, just to see what the fuss was all about.

There were three lobster tails cooked in butter, served on a floured, slightly toasted bun with watercress salad and foie gras butter.
It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t have any wow-factor. The bun was slightly dry, and while the lobster tails were cooked to perfection with delicate, subtle flavours, I would’ve enjoyed them much more sans bread. It sounded a lot more appetizing on paper, than in my hand.

One thing I do want to rave about, was their Prosciutto endive salad with a mixture of fresh and marinated figs, served with aged reggiano cheese. This was just superb.

Well, here’s to spending our stimulus packages from the government. It’s all about helping the economy, right?

despite the lack of comments I give out (usually i'm at work) but damn woman how do you get all the money for such GREAT FOOD!!!! ure a food critic? no?
@AMYxJADE - the Australian government gave each of us $900 to spend, to fuel the economy! (no prizes for your guess on what i'm spending my money on!)
@Amuse_Bouche - oh wow don't I feel like an ignorant american asshole LOL!!! you're soo lucky!!! I think I'm the one of the few handfuls that didn't receive a stimulus check last year (I didn't make enough to fill out taxes -- full time student) but guess who's getting reimbursed this year?!?!?! ;) -- not to mention I didn't get taxed for the stimulus check as everyone else who received it!!!!!
but wow almost a grand -- that's sick but nonetheless great choices in where to "fuel up" the economy ;)
lobster is best served canto style!!!! sizzleee
I feel like alot of the lobster dishes are special for nothing. The lobster ravioli I had some years ago at a quaint italian restaurant was a disaster even though everything else was spectacular. Lobster dishes are best when prepared simply, enjoyed with the least amount of additional work & ingredients.
gosh the us is so cheap compared to the Australian gov!
Why did you guys get a stimulus package ?
Nice.
Question. Where would you recommend a non-Asian/Spanish/Mediterrean restaurant in the Sydney CBD area for a one-on-one dinner?
@Adolphus - I would recommend Etch Dining (or Becasse), and currently, Galileo are doing some really amazing mid week specials! It's like 2 courses with wine for $49pp. The chef is michelin starred! Sure to impress the hot date.
omg i wish i am there for the Galileo special... man i miss that place... i miss the afternoon tea we had there with the girls... !! time to head back in near future!! LOL -
The Prosciutto endive salad looks sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo awesome... i want that NOW!
@Amuse_Bouche - ah thank you for the recommendations. Definitely need to check that out. She's quirky rather than hot if i were to use a word....we'll see how it goes.
Now I'm craving seafood....
